Cinnamon Apple Dessert (or a Twist on Apple Compote)
Here comes another recipe from the “easier than ever” league, made with the fruit of the most cultivated tree on the planet: the apple. Who hasn’t heard at some point… eat an apple mid-morning, it’s very healthy. Its richness in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals makes it one of the most beneficial fruits for health, available all year round.
In Spain its consumption isn’t promoted as much as in other countries, where all kinds of apple-based products are widely consumed daily (juices, soft drinks, sauces, jellies, etc.), and they even have sayings like: An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Given these nutritional and therapeutic properties—and the fact that this dessert takes almost no time to prepare—today’s recipe feels like a 2-for-1 deal. Make the most of it!

Ingredients for 2 people
2 medium apples (I used the Starking variety)
1 glass of water
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 cinnamon stick
Ground cinnamon for garnish (optional)

Preparation
Peel the apples, remove the cores, and cut them into medium-sized pieces.
Place them in a saucepan with the water and the cinnamon stick and bring to a boil.
Once boiling, add the sugar, stir a few times, cover, and let it simmer over low heat for about 20–25 minutes (until the apples are soft).
Notes
You can substitute white sugar with brown sugar and the cinnamon stick with vanilla.
Don’t forget to prepare the apples just before boiling them so they don’t oxidize.
You can also blend the apples at the end, once cooked, to turn it into a proper compote.
